Thunder River and Deer Creek

Those who paddled, paddled a measly 2.5 miles from Tapeats to across from Deer Creek (Mile 136.5). Seven of us, including Your Intrepid Reporter, did the "Up and Over" hike up Tapeats Creek, to Thunder River, onto Surprise Valley, and down Deer Creek. This 7.5-mile desert hike was rigorous and well worth it.
